Музей находится в самом центре города. Построен на фундаменте церкви по спецпроекту. Является архитектурным памятником местного значения. примыкающая территория - парк, в котором с удовольствием отдыхабт горожане. Музей был открыт 5 ноября 1997 года. Детей очень привлекает зал природы, т.к. в нем хорошо отражена флора и фауна района. В выставочном зале организуется до 15 выставок в год, как из фондов музея, так и из других музеев края и России.
